§ 6-24. Landings and takeoff rules

Latest version.
  • (a) Authority to suspend operations. The airport manager may suspend or restrict any or all operations at Granite Shoals Airport without regard to weather conditions, whenever such action is deemed necessary in the interest of safety.

    (b) Active runway. If the winds are calm, or at 90-degree crosswind, takeoffs should be made using runway 20 and landings should be made on runway 2 due to the topography of the land. Pilot discretion is advised.

    (c) Takeoffs on tie-down areas, etc. No takeoffs or landings shall be made on the tie-down areas.

    (d) Entry and traffic flow. At ten nautical miles out, announce intentions on Unicom/CTAF frequency 122.8. Enter pattern in level flight abeam of the runway at pattern altitude of 1,660 feet mean sea level. Maintain pattern altitude until abeam of the approach end of the landing runway on downwind leg. Complete turn to final at least one quarter mile from the approach end. Make straight in approaches with caution, listen and announce intentions for takeoff or full stop. All landing at this airport shall fly a standard left hand traffic pattern of 1,660 feet mean sea level.

    (e) Takeoff climb. A standard takeoff pattern is used at Granite Shoals Airport. On takeoff, departing aircraft shall climb straight ahead until beyond the departure end of the runway climbing to 1,360 feet mean sea level, then execute a 45-degree turn or continuing straight out. If remaining in the traffic pattern, commence turn to crosswind leg beyond to departure end of the runway, within 300 feet (1,360 feet mean sea level) below the traffic pattern altitude of 1,660 feet mean sea level.

    (f) Altitude and engine noise. Except on landing and takeoff, aircraft should be operated over the city at an altitude of at least 1,660 feet mean sea level. Aircraft engines should not be accelerated or decelerated while over the city in such manner as to disturb persons on the ground. Such operations shall be consistent with safe operating procedures.

    (g) Special procedures. The airport manager may, in the interest of safety, designate special traffic procedures for certain operations, such as air shows, lighter than air operations, and ultralights.
